“Chinese Olive" is a traditional snack in Guangzhou, originating in the 1930s and 1940s. Back then, street vendors would wear colorful rooster-shaped costumes, play the suona (a traditional Chinese wind instrument) while hawking their goods, and skillfully toss preserved olives up to the windows of arcade buildings.
